Respect Scarborough believes that all parties at the Federal level need to have a vision and strategy for public transit. The event below is the first of its kind – a federal MP wanting to talk to you about the need for better public transit infrastructure. *Note: This event is not organized by Respect Scarborough.
MOVING CANADA FORWARD: Transit Town Hall with Dan Harris MP
Thursday May 31, 2012
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Centennial College, Ashtonbee Campus – Room C-211
Study after study shows: Canada is falling behind when it comes to public transit. Municipalities and provinces are facing an ever-widening funding gap – not only for keeping up with growing urban populations but also in terms of simply maintaining the transit infrastructure that’s already in place.
Olivia Chow, MP for Trinity-Spadina has taken the initiatives in Parliament by introducing Bill C-305, calling for a National Public Transit Strategy. With a nationwide, long-term funding plan for public transit, we can tackle the challenges we face. But Olivia’s action in Ottawa is not enough – we need your support.
We’re growing momentum – forty prominent cities, transit operators and experts from across the country have expressed support for Olivia’s Bill C-305 to date, joining the call for national policy framework for public transit. Now you can be a part of it!
